Bursitis Pains: Well What’s A Bursa?

After weeks of pain, you finally visit your doctor and you’re diagnosed with bursitis. “Well, okay,” you say. “Now I know that these are bursitis pains. Well, what’s a bursa?” Maybe the technical terms used didn’t give you a full explanation of bursitis, so here it is.

A bursa is a small sac that contains fluid. This fluid is released to lubricate your joints. This allows your joints to move freely. When a bursa is injured for whatever reason, the fluid is no longer released and there is no lubrication. Now, the bone and tendons cause friction when you move. This friction causes pain in joints, making it difficult to function.

The good news is that there are medications and treatments available to combat bursitis pain. I hope this bit of information gives you a better understanding of bursitis.
